THE SOUNDBOARD FILES

This is the section where you find reviews, covers and track listings of all the pro-recorded bootlegs I have. From soundboard material to DVD rips. Usually these are the better sounding bootlegs. If you don't care for audience recordings then this is the list for you!

11-14-1977  Meat Loaf Live at the Agora Ballroom                     (LP Promo)

Soundboard from the vinyl bootleg. Meat Loaf at the Agora Ballroom in Cleveland, Ohio. And what a great bootleg it is. Meat sounds really fantastic here and with a set list that contains an early version of More than You Deserve, it's hard to go wrong. Sound is good but could have been better. It kind of fluctuates. The show itself is very entertaining.

Almost gave this the maximum 5 stars but the sound is a little distracting, so 4 out of 5 stars.

11-28-1977  Meat Loaf Early at the Bottom Line                     (Radio Promo)

On November 28th, 1977 Meat Loaf played 2 shows at the Bottom Line Club in New York. This is the first show better known as the Early Show. The sound is great as it's soundboard material. Meat is also great and the songs are a joy to listen to.  These early bootlegs are a real treat for any Meat Loaf fan!

I don't give out 1/2 stars and because the Late show is better I can't give this 5 stars so I have to give 4 out of 5.

11-28-1977  Meat Loaf Late at the Bottom Line                      (Radio Promo)

This is the second show or 'Late Show' Meat Loaf performed at the Bottom Line Club on November 28th, 1977. What a great show this is! Compared to this the 'Early Show' sounds like a warming up rehearsal. Superb set list and lots of interaction with the crowd. Soundboard material again so great audio quality. Meat is great and entertaining. WOW!

This is one of my favorite bootlegs. So it's obvious that this gets the maximum score of 5 stars from me!

11-29-1977  Meat Loaf at My Father's Place                                (LP Promo)

The great shows of the 70's are continued with this great soundboard bootleg. Recorded at 'My Father's Place' in Old Roslyn, New York on November 29th, 1977. So one day after the Bottom Line concerts. This bootleg only has 5 songs. Overall they are very good. Actually one of the first bootlegs I ever got. The good sound quality makes this a rock solid album.

Just the 5 songs aren't enough for me to give this the maximum score. As I said it's a solid album so 4 out of 5 stars.

12-16-1977  Meat Loaf Live at the Bottom Line                      (Radio Promo)

This sounds very much like a compilation of both Bottom Line Concerts from November 1977. It's a radio broadcast so sound is great. Unfortunately it has the radio DJ talking between the songs. Very decent stuff and another great bootleg from the late 1970's. Meat sounds good and the set list is entertaining.

It's too much a radio broadcast with all the jabbing in between. And it's not as good as the Late Show. So 4 out of 5 stars for this one.

12-23-1977  Meat Loaf Live at Old Waldorf                            (Soundboard)

In December of 1977, Meat Loaf played two nights in a row at the Old Waldorf in San Francisco. This is from the second night. It's a soundboard recording recaptured from an old music tape. Unfortunately the tape had some minor problems. The show is decent. Still 'For Crying Out Loud' is always a treat.

There is a consistent hiss during the audio and some minor parts suffer from the old audio tape. Still a great show! 4 out of 5 stars for this one.

1978  Bat Out of Hell - Bare Bones Edition                     (SACD Source)

What I understand this is the 5.1 SACD version of the original Bat Out of Hell album. Only they filtered out all the channels except the center speaker channel, leaving us with Meat's vocals only. Although I love the music arrangement of the official album it's more than entertaining to just hear Meat Loaf sing this without hearing the instruments.

Fantastic audio and a real treat to hear the songs this way. Not a concert but I give it the maximum 5 stars anyway.

01-18-1978  Meat Loaf Live at El Mocambo                             (RadioPromo)

I know, I start losing my credibility by saying that this is another winner. But it is. Meat Loaf Live at the El Mocambo in Toronto, Canada is just another fantastic bootleg. Soundboard material so great audio. Meat Loaf sounds good and some of the songs are greatly performed. This is bootlegged from the vinyl album. Recorded live on January 18th, 1978.

Although this is a great concert I do miss that little extra to give it the maximum score. Therefore a very deserved 4 out of 5 stars.

01-18-1978  Meat Loaf Live at El Mocambo                                (LP Promo)

It's the same January 18, 1978 recording as above. Only this is a direct rip from the rare Canadian Epic 7-track promotional-only Epic white title label demonstration vinyl LP album. Quality of this one is better. But 'For Crying Out Loud' is missing on this version. Also this one has the Bolero intro and Bat Out of Hell as one track.

The audio quality is better as the above but not in a way that would give this a higher overall rating. Another 4 out of 5 stars.

04-21-1978  Meat Loaf Live at the Music Hall, Cleveland     (Radio Promo)

Apparently this is a mixture of soundboard and radio promo material. Whatever the sources may be this is a great sounding bootleg. Recorded live from the Music Hall in Cleveland, Ohio on April 21st, 1978. Meat's voice is great which makes this again a very solid bootleg. There are two versions. This is the short version

It's a very decent bootleg with great quality material. Certainly good enough to get 4 out of 5 stars.

  8/10            8/10

01 Bolero
02 Bat out of Hell
03 You Took the Words

04-21-1978  Meat Loaf Live at the Music Hall, Cleveland     (Radio Promo)

This is the other version. Same concert but this is the longer bootleg with two extra songs. This one comes with 'Hammerdown' and 'For Crying Out Loud' on the set list. There is also a bit more chatter to the audience. Unfortunately the sound has more distortions during the songs and the quality is significant less.

Sound quality is certainly less good but this one has Hammerdown and For Crying Out Loud. So this also gets 4 out of 5 stars.

04-21-1978  King Biscuit Flower Hour presents Meat Loaf   (Radio Promo)

From the same concert as the one above. Cleveland 1978. But this is from the original promotion CD for the King Biscuit Radio Show. And the sound is absolutely amazing! Much better sound as the Cleveland bootleg. Only letdown is that each track contains 2 or 3 songs and the show has included radio advertisements.

Amazing bootleg and fantastic audio. Because this has adverts between the songs it doesn't get the maximum. Still 4 out of 5 stars.

11-06-1978  Meat Loaf Live in Russelsheim                            (Radio Promo)

Live in Russelsheim is the radio broadcast of the 'Original Tour' concert. Very good sound quality although some hiss can be heard. This concert was also available as a bootleg DVD before it got an official release. It's not the complete concert but nonetheless a good compilation of it. Meat sounds ok and the songs are fine.

This is nothing 'special' especially after the release of the Bat Original Tour. That's why this one get 'only' 3 out of 5 stars.

11-06-1978  Meat Loaf: Bat Out of Hell - The Original Tour  (DVD Audio)

Bat Out of Hell the Original Tour was recorded at the Stadhalle in Offenbach, Germany. This is an audio rip of the official DVD. Good sound but I expected better from an official release. Still a very nice concert from the Bat out of Hell tour. As a bonus there are two tracks with an interview with Jim Steinman and Meat Loaf.

Nice complete Bats concert but the sound quality is a little disappointing. That's why I give this 4 out of 5 stars.

07-06-1978  Meat Loaf Live at the Hammersmith, Odeon     (Soundboard)

There are two versions of this bootleg. The short and the long version. The long version has the spoken intro to 'You took the Words', the 'Death of an American Guitar' speech before 'All Revved Up' starts and a 21 minute version of 'Paradise by the Dashboard Light'. This is the long version and the sound is superb! So is Meat and the entire concert. Great bootleg!

This is another of those bootlegs I can enjoy over and over. So it just has to get the maximum. 5 out of 5 stars.

09-01-1978  Meat Loaf Live at Nassau Coliseum                     (Soundboard)

This may well be the best known bootleg of Meat Loaf from the 70's. Yet 'Live at Nassau Coliseum' is not the best bootleg out there. Recorded on September 1st, 1978. With special guest Todd Rundgeren singing Just One Victory and with Steinman singing More than You Deserve. It's soundboard material but Meat's microphone seems very low mixed.

With all the other great bootlegs of this tour this one just doesn't 'do it' for me. 3 out of 5 stars.

02-16-1979  Indo Chinese Boat Benefit                                  (Radio Promo)

The Chinese Boat Benefit lasted two days in an effort to raise awareness of the boat people's plight and to help raise funds to help in the resettlement efforts. On the first night Meat showed up at the New York Palladium and played two songs. This was on February 16th, 1979. Sound is above par as it's part of a radio Broadcast. Something for the collection.

Hard to give this a grading. There are just two songs which are okay. So I decided to give a star for each song. 2 out of 5 stars.

12-19-1981  Meat Loaf Live at Rock Pop Dortmund                   (TV Audio)

If I'm being honest I have to say I hate this concert. Meat Loaf sounds stoned, drunk and uninterested. This is a terrible bootleg that I never care to listen again. Anyway the Rock Pop concert was aired on TV and this bootleg is a direct audio rip from that broadcast. Sound is very reasonable although not great. Very disappointing stuff.

This doesn't deserve much of a rating. Meat Loaf is terrible here. 1 out of 5 stars.

This was officially released on video as 'Meat Loaf Live'. Meat doesn't sound really good here but it's way better than Rock Pop. Some great songs in this set but vocally not performed too well. The audio is ripped from the released VHS tape so the sound quality is great. The concert is just okay. I hope for a better bootleg of the Dead Ringer Tour.

Obviously much better than Dortmund but still not that great. I wanted to give it a 2.5 grading.  2.5 means 3 out of 5 stars.

Unfortunately some songs were cut for the broadcast but the sound here is really superb. Meat Loaf is also very good again. All in all this is a very enjoyable bootleg.

Great sound as this is from a radio broadcast. And concert, despite being cut, is also very good. So it gets 4 out of 5 stars.

Whatever it may be this is another truly great bootleg. Sound quality is superb and Meat is again stunning. Too bad the concert is incomplete. Still 8 great tracks to enjoy!

It's a pro shot concert that was aired on the radio. Still there are a lot of sound noises that are a little disturbing. So not the best sounding bootleg. Meat sounds good but not as fantastic as on the other bootlegs of this tour. Might have to do with the fact that he suffered from a broken leg during this show.

Meat Loaf sounds fabulous again and the songs are a joy to listen too. From the Wembley Arena Concert of March 1st, 1987.

It's ripped from the incomplete pro shot DVD registration of this concert (reviewed in the DVD Bootleg section) and the sound is soundboard material. But it's very unbalanced and Masculine just sounds bad. The parts where the audio sounds good it really sounds terrific.

The 'rehearsal songs' were released on several singles as B-sides. The audio quality is outstanding. Perfect soundboard quality. That can't be said about the performances unfortunately. Some of the songs are just performed badly and Meat screws up more than just once. But then again that's why they are rehearsals I supose.

This isn't a concert and can't be graded as one. So I based this on the sound quality and performance quality of the songs. 3 out of 5 stars.

Great concert as a lot of these songs were later used for official releases on the 'Live around the World' double CD and the bonus CD for the Collector's Edition of Bat out of Hell 2. Sound is good. Still I have a better sounding bootleg from this source.

Great bootleg with good sound and a great performance from Meat Loaf. It gets a solid 4 out of 5.

There are many bootleg versions of this concert and this isn't one of the better ones. Sound is not as good as the other ones (although the audio is still way above average) and the set list is in a different order

Good audio but not as good as the other versions. SO not the maximum score. 4 out of 5 stars from me!

09-18-1993  Westwood One Radio Superstar Concert Series   (Soundboard)

Yes this is another version of the Hudson concert from September 18th, 1993. But the sound on this one is just perfect! From the rare US Westwood One 2-CD radio show hosted by J J Jackson First broadcast August 19th 1996. After each track there are radio ads. And each track gets introduced by J J Jackson. Paradise, sadly, is incomplete to fit the radio broadcast.

The audio quality on this one couldn't be better. Too bad for the incomplete Paradise. Still this quality deserves 5 out of 5 stars!

09-18-1993  Meat Loaf Louder at the Hudson Theater           (Soundboard)

I really like this bootleg. It's the Hudson show again but with much more tracks. Cover date says September 15 but that's my mistake. It should say Sept 18. Again soundboard material but the best versions available from that concert. Great set list, great performance and fantastic audio. This is one of the best bootlegs from this tour.

Great set with superb audio. Nothing wrong with this CD. A much deserved grading of 5 out of 5 stars.

The History of Meat Loaf Live was a TV special concert from MTV/VH1. Recorded in Orlando on November 14th, 1993. This is a very good audio rip from the TV broadcast. Meat sounds fantastic and the set list contains the best of the first two Bat albums. Roll over Beethoven was never aired on TV but part of the concert.

Meat is great and the audio is pretty good. Some songs are edited for TV purpose but all in all an entertaining CD. 4 out of 5 stars.

This concert from Cardiff, Wales from December 4th, 1993 is fantastic. The set list, the performances of the songs and Meat Loaf's voice are just fantastic. So is the audio for most parts. There are a few glitches but Objects in the Rearview Mirror suffers from a major glitch. The only let down of this fantastic show.

Despite the audio glitches this is a real treasure. One of the best bootlegs of this tour and like the Hudson one this deserves 5 out of 5 stars.

This was broadcasted on German radio and is the September 10th show from Mannheim, Germany. This could have been such a great bootleg. The sound is superb, the set list is full. This has everything except a great performance from Meat Loaf.  Meat sounds very weak and this might be one of the worst vocal performances.

At the end of the two year tour Meat's voice suffered a lot. Audio is grea performance not so. Still 3 out of 5 stars.

10-23-1995  Meat Loaf Live at the Beacon Theater                      (TV Audio)

From the very well known televised concert 'Live in the Neighbourhood'. This is the audio rip of that TV concert. So the sound is really great. So is Meat Loaf. His voice is strong and the set list is very entertaining. Anything for Love is a bonus track from the Berlin 1996 performance. Great bootleg to start this tour with.

Fantastic sound and a great performance make this a great bootleg. But there is a better bootleg from this show. Therefore 4 out of 5 stars.

What a fantastic bootleg this is. Same concert as above but with more songs and superb audio quality. Midnight at the Lost and Found, Dead Ringer and All Revved Up were recorded but never used in the TV broadcast. What You See is What You Get is not from the same concert and added as a bonus. A-Must-Have CD.

An amazing soundboard bootleg of this tour. Hard to top. Only the maximum score is enough. 5 out of 5 stars.

This bootleg contains the Beacon Theater show from October 23rd, 1995 in perfect audio quality. The sound is fantastic and the set list is complete. I do have more bootlegs from this show but none are this superb! Meat sounds great and this promo concert for the 'Welcome to the Neighbourhood' album is a real joy to listen to.

Although I said it would be hard to top the above bootleg of this show, this really tops it. Amazing! 5 out of 5 stars.

11-09-1995  It's Live For You (And That's the Truth)            (Soundboard)

Another great sounding CD. Meat visited the MuchMusic studios in Canada on September 9th, 1995 to promote his latest CD and played seven songs for the small audience. The songs were unofficially released for radio Broadcast. It is missing the energy of a real concert but also lacks the feeling of an intimate performance. Also Meat's voice isn't fantastic here.

This one has great audio. Not a concert but the performance was about average nonetheless. Giving it 4 out of 5 stars.

Which obviously has influence on Meat's performance. The sound is also very good. It's sourced from a Dutch TV show and the audio sounds clear.

So very good audio. Total Eclipse is performed by Bonnie Tyler. Paradise was edited for TV broadcast (they left out some of the fighting act). Good stuff altogether.

Audio is clear, no side noises and very balanced. Track 5 is an interview with Meat from Dutch radio so part of it is Dutch spoken. The interview is in English, obviously.

Again the same short set as on the other Proms bootlegs. Meat sounds good and this, being a pro shot CD, bootleg is much better as the Munchen CD above.

It's clear and bright. Meat Loaf sounds good but with just 6 songs it's too hard to get a good impression of the concert itself. Great bootleg material, though.

In between he sang a few songs, had some laughs and talks about his past. Sound quality is very good and the songs are performed unplugged, which is nice to hear.

During Couldn't Have Said it Better there were some microphone issues. Bat Out of hell was edited for TV broadcast. Ripped from TV source so sound is really good.

Recorded on August 8th, 2003 at the National Auditorium in Mexico. This is one of those bootlegs that works better on CD as it does on video. Too bad the crowd is almost completely edited out.

Sound quality is perfect and I like the songs that were picked for this CD. Although the performances could have been better.

This is the perfect end for this Last World Tour. Soundboard material. What you get is a full packed rock CD with a great performance of Meat Loaf. Recorded over two nights at the Rod Laver Arena on February 20th and 22nd 2004. This is the bootleg to get! Sound quality is just perfect. The show is a treat. Meat Loaf is a joy to hear.

If a bootleg CD is this good there is only one grade it deserves. This gets a much earned 5 out of 5 stars.
